Sejal Shah, Founder
After having her first child in 2013, Sejal realized the key to understanding, preserving and passing on culture began with language. Indian born, American raised Sejal was blessed to grow up in a home where the primary language was Gujarati. Being immersed in a Gujarati environment allowed her to naturally learn the language and being surrounded by Hindi (Bollywood) music and movies allowed her to pick up on basic Hindi as well. Sejal quickly recognized with her own children, that immersing them in a language is the key to learning it. She only speaks to them in Gujarati. However, as she looked for other ways to bring the Gujarati (and Hindi) language into her home she realized there were not enough "things" easily available in the US and the books and toys that were available were not an affordable price point. As a result, Sejal has spent the last 5 years creating and designing language & cultural learning materials for her children to use at and around the home. Over the last few years, she has published many of these free printable flashcards and activities for others to use as well on her blog.
Now, as a mom of 5 she is experiencing the true rewards of the gift of language as she watches her four children, speak, bond and learn in Gujarati. It gives her hope that the language that ties her to her Indian roots will be preserved for more generations to come.
